We Alert, Connect & Protect

Lightning Protection System

The function of a lightning protection system is to protect structures from fire or mechanical destruction and to prevent persons in buildings are injured or even killed. Lightning equipotential bonding reduces the potential differences caused by lightning currents.

Who we really are

LIGHTNING & EARTHING SMART SOLUTIONS

Functions of an external lightning protection system

  • Interception of direct lightning strikes via an air-termination system
  • Safe discharge of lightning current to earth via a down-conductor system
  • Distribution of the lightning current in the ground via an earth-termination system

HOW we do

LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM INSTALLATION

  • The top of the light terminal shall be installed at least 2 meters over the area that it protects (including antennas, refrigerating towers, roofs and tanks).
  • Each lightning rod shall be connected to at least two down conductors.
  • The receiving antennas (TV, radio, telephone) should be connecter directly or through and SPD or an isolated spark gap to the lightning protection system with a suitable conductor.
  • The coaxial cable of the antennas should be protected with a protective device.
  • The metallic elements that rise above the roof should be connected to the closest down conductor.
  • Down-conductors will be placed preferably at the external part of the structure (whenever possible), avoiding the proximity of electrical or gas conductors.
  • All earthing system for a same structure should be interconnected.
  • It is recommended to add mineral compound to achieve lower soil resistivity.

EARTHING

A well-designed earthing system is the basis for any electrical installation in order to ensure the danger associated with fault currents is avoided, protecting both equipment and individuals.

Consulting

AIC3s services have provided lightning protection, grounding and surge protection solutions throughout multiple industries providing greater lightning safety, savings and efficiency using a proprietary approach to risk reduction. The necessary services are dependent on your company’s lightning safety requirements. They can be as simple as a technical review or as extensive as a site survey.

TRANSIENT OVERVOLTAGE

Transient overvoltages are an increase of voltage on the electrical network, measured between two conductors. Protection devices must respond instantly, safeguarding the equipment connected to the power supply lines and the data lines.

PERMANENT OVERVOLTAGE

Permanent overvoltages are increases in potential of over 10% of the nominal value of the power supply. in order to protect equipment against the effects that these overvoltages may cause, Power Frequency Overvoltage Protectors must be installed, which disconnect the installation from the power supply network.
